Abstract

This IRB-approved research project aims to implement a six-week education course on neurodiverse-affirming care to caregivers of neurodiverse children at Extraordinary Kids Therapy outpatient clinic in Chepachet, RI. The goal of this capstone project is to increase confidence and knowledge of neurodiverse-affirming care among the caregivers who participated in the course. To analyze the impact of the education course, pre- and post-surveys, along with semi-structured zoom interviews, are being administered and analyzed. This research is ongoing and will be completed by April, 2026. This presentation will highlight the monumental need for additional research regarding the impact of neurodiverse education for caregivers of a neurodiverse child, the impact on caregivers' mental health, outcomes of the IRB-approved study, and future implications for neurodiverse-affirming care involving caregivers' knowledge and confidence utilizing principles of neurodiverse-affirming care when interacting and advocating for their neurodiverse child.
