Abstract
Background:
• Home modifications effectively create a safer, more independent way of living for adults with disabilities or who desire to age in place
• By 2020, there were about 53.0 million caregivers in the U.S. (“Caregiving in the United States 2020”, 2020)
• 23% of the caregivers in the U.S. say their own health has worsened (“Caregiving in the United States 2020”, 2020)
• Limited studies around home modifications and caregiver burden
• Home modifications’ effectiveness alone vs. with a co-intervention, such as occupational therapy
Purpose: to implement an outcome measure to assess the effectiveness of home modifications on caregiver burden at Thrive for Life.
Importance: caregiver mental and physical health are often neglected.
