Abstract

School staff are comprised of individuals with varying educational backgrounds. Evidence-based professional development (PD) training is important and should meet the diverse needs of all staff. One-on-one, multicomponent programming with follow-up training is identified as the most effective practice. Occupational therapy (OT) services can support the education and training of school staff who work in a specialized school setting for a more restrictive environment, serving children with autism, behavioral and developmental disabilities.

Objective: With training, staff will report a greater understanding of sensory processing and implementation strategies.

Research Question: Will individualized training approaches increase staff confidence in implementing sensory strategies to support student occupational performance and participation?
