Abstract

This project examined the social and emotional experiences of Black students at predominantly White institutions (PWIs). Using a qualitative interview approach, the researcher conducted in-depth, open-ended interviews with Black undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni to explore perceptions of campus culture, belonging, representation, and identity. The study highlighted recurring themes related to cultural navigation, emotional well-being, and adaptive strategies across different stages of higher education. Findings emphasized the importance of centering Black student voices to better understand institutional impact and to inform future research and equity-focused practices in higher education.
