Abstract
• 17% of the U.S. population is older adults, and approximately 7 out of 10 will need long-term care in their lifetime (Mohler & Miller, 2020)
• Relocation to a long-term care facility is linked to depression and/or anxiety (Polacsek & Woolford, 2022).
• Culture and staff understanding impact resident acclimation (Polacsek & Woolford, 2022; Fitzpatrick & Tzouvara, 2019).
• Care staff often report a lack of confidence in their ability to connect with and discuss difficult topics with residents (Polacsek & Woolford, 2022).
PIO: Will an Occupational Therapy (OT) focused transition protocol improve perceived acclimation for older adults moving into assisted living?
Purpose: Modify the resident intake and transition process at Grove Manor Estates with the aim of optimizing a successful transition and overall quality of life for new residents.
