Abstract

A team of student designers was tasked with creating marketing materials for the JWU Student Research, Design & Innovation Symposium (SRDIS), who aimed to develop a cohesive and visually engaging brand identity for the event. The objective was to craft a design system that effectively communicated the symposium’s academic significance while maintaining a professional and modern aesthetic.

The project involved extensive research into past symposium themes, audience engagement strategies, and effective academic branding. The team developed a suite of promotional materials, including posters, digital graphics, and social media assets, ensuring consistency across all platforms. Key considerations included typography, color psychology, and accessibility to enhance readability and engagement.

This project reinforced the importance of research-driven design in academic settings, emphasizing how strategic visual communication can enhance event outreach and participation. It also provided valuable experience in professional collaboration, client feedback integration, and brand development. The project was completed under the guidance of Deana Marzocchi, who served as a mentor throughout the design process.
