Abstract
The purpose of this research project is to examine the relationship between partner status and substance misuse. We believe that single persons have a higher likelihood of substance misuse compared to other relationship status. We focused specifically on binge drinking, cannabis misuse, and cigarette smoking. The partner status that we focus on are no partner (single), causal, monogamy, consensual non-monogamy, and non-consensual monogamy. The goal of this study is to see the association between different relationship statuses and different kinds of substance misuse, using a large nationwide sample of sexual and gender minority persons.
