Abstract
The food system is very important for humankind, but due to its complexities it is not very sustainable. Industrial farming uses many chemicals to grow crops and it is the main practice farmers use. This method of farming wastes water, pollutes water systems, destroys soil, and decreases biodiversity. These crops are then used to create different products within the food industry. New methods of farming such as hydroponics need to be pursued to prevent these unsustainable practices. They have far fewer impacts on water waste, water pollution, soil destruction, or the decrease of biodiversity. This will also ensure food industry workers are using crops that were grown in ways that have less impact on the environment.
